What evolved was a class project to make ceramic bowls for a fundraising meal. Guests were served a simple meal of soup and bread, and were invited to keep their bowls as a reminder that someone else’s bowl is always empty and that communities of people can work together to fill them. Since then, Empty Bowls events have been held throughout the world, and millions of dollars have been raised to combat hunger.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_bowls

May 2 Event

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XqJJIu41np0/SfrrmB87PiI/AAAAAAAAAAU/oqRA7A7pep0/s400/making_a_bowl.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330832147537935906" />
Join us on Saturday, May 2 in downtown Sequim to learn more about our project to feed the hungry with art. Food banks, soup kitchens and other community help agencies have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people they serve. Food banks, stretched to the limit, are seeing more young families with children. It is our hope that this year’s Empty Bowls Project will be the first of what will become a yearly event to raise money to fight hunger. All proceeds from this year’s Peninsula Empty Bowls Project events will go to the Sequim Food Bank.

Watch for community bowl making and glazing events to be announced soon, and throughout the coming year.

For more information about the Peninsula Empty Bowls Project contact Heather Boyd at The Blooming Brush at 360.681.2319 or bloomingbrush@msn.com
